DISLOCATED WORKER PROGRAM Losing your job can be one of the most challenging events in your life. Job loss can cause economic hardship, and add stress to your life. The Teamsters Service Bureau has funds available to help laid off workers get retrained and reemployed! Our concern is to recognize the worth of each individual, and to preserve a worker's sense of dignity following the loss of a job. Services are available to persons who are laid off due to plant closings, downsizing, or mass layoffs. Government grants provide funding for dislocated worker projects. It is free to those who are eligible. Call today to find out if you are eligible. 612-676-3700 |

Orientation and Registration Session (Intake): At or near time of layoff, Service Bureau staff meet with workers to acquaint them with the variety of services available. These sessions provide opportunities for immediate questions to be answered, individual job loss issues to be addressed, and the start of the necessary paperwork for enrollment. In cooperation with the Employee Management Committee, these and other sessions are scheduled according to the needs of each workforce.Career Assessment: We offer individual assessment to determine what services are needed, as well as a workshop that provides essential information for an individual to understand his/her own career development process. Our Career Assessment Workshop is designed to assess career values, interests, and skills, and participants receive practical assistance with re-employment planning.Individual Employment Planning (IEP): Each participant will have a counselor who will facilitate developing an Individual Employment Plan (IEP). The IEP includes goals and an action plans that chart a path toward re-employment.Adult continuing education: Sometimes, job seekers need to upgrade their reading, writing, math, or study skills — or complete their high school education by earning their GED. We work with participants to ensure they have the resources necessary to meet their goals.Customized training: Dislocated worker projects can sponsor training courses and programs designed specifically for a group of dislocated workers. The training is short-term, industry specific, and targeted to meet the demands of employers.Skills training programs: The Dislocated Worker Program can pay for tuition, books, tools, and supplies for an approved training program. Participants work closely with counselors to assess training needs and fund appropriate training programs.On-the-job training: Through the Dislocated Worker Program, employers may receive reimbursement for part of a worker's wages during a designated training period for a regular full-time or part-time job. A contract with an employer is negotiated through our Employment Department.Resource Room with library and high-speed Internet computers: We provide a fully equipped job search area for all clients. It is open during regular business hours, and offers computers with high-speed Internet access, business software, resume development software, keyboarding tutorial, printer, copier, and fax. This quiet work area contains telephones, school program information, company information, a wall of job leads, and a career library.Resume development: Our Resume Development Workshop explains the types of resumes, and how, when, and why to use it. Participants work with specialists to develop a professional resume that can be modified or updated as needed. One-to-one meetings with staff are also available, and there is self-directed resume creator software in our Resource Room for those who like to do it themselves.Support services: The Service Bureau provides information and referrals to individuals for personal, family, and financial problems. We may also provide some payments for daycare, mileage, and special needs associated with participation in program activities. All inquiries and requests are treated with respect and dignity and are kept strictly confidential.Other counseling services : A clinical social worker is available to meet with individuals or families to help solve personal problems, talk about financial and emotional issues, or deal with general concerns related to job loss.
